HCAYS offers small liberal arts–oriented classes and the opportunity to enroll directly in the Madrid University system. Participants must speak Spanish at all time, both in and outside of class; all students are required to sign a pledge to this effect before their arrival in Madrid.

El Centro, the program headquarters, is nestled in one of the most exclusive, safe and sought after neighborhoods in Madrid, El Viso. It has all the convenience of being near the heart of the city center, but our Centro is on a quiet, tree-lined street, and has excellent transportation options, with four different Metros nearby.

The program offers students the opportunity to develop true linguistic proficiency and to experience the many facets of Spanish life. Via the the orientation trips and excursions, students discover the gastronomic, cultural, industrial, linguistic, and historical wealth of Spain. Additionally, Home-stays with Spanish families give students a full immersion experience and sustained language practice.

Eligibility: to be admitted, a student must have an overall average of at least a B and high grades in Spanish, and must complete or be enrolled in HSPST 200. Deadline for year and fall is March 1, and for spring is October 1
